“The Healthy Organization”

Have you ever thought whether your organization is maintaining a healthy environment or not? Would you describe your organization as “healthy”? First, let me describe what I mean by a “Healthy Organization”. A healthy organization is an organization where people interact efficiently together and thus achieving higher performance and better results.  Its culture and work practices are characterized by a positive environment that enhances its employees’ and organizational effectiveness. The healthy organization has the following characteristics: It is collaborative, consistent, efficient, transparent, supportive, flexible, adaptable, and innovative. So, what are some of the Key Factors that create a “Healthy Organization”? The effective communication between the management and its employees is a main contributor to a healthy organization. Open communication and transparency from both sides are essential, because they create a trusted and a positive environment. Also, creating a shared vision and shared goals empowers employees and thus increasing their performance. Moreover, it is essential to engage employees in the decision making process and in problem solving. This leads to higher engagement and thus higher productively as employees feel they are important and valuable members in the organization which increases their commitment, morale, and sense of belonging. Also, forming collaborative teams leads to effective communication and innovation. It is vital to create heathy teams in the organization who share mutual trust, integrity, and sense of responsibility. Effective teamwork leads to strong interpersonal relationships among people in the organization which creates the positive environment and eventually maximizes performance and results. Heathy teams are able to manage change efficiently, deal and manage well their internal conflicts, and most importantly support and care for each other in times of crisis and difficulties. Finally, a healthy organization can never be achieved by only focusing on the financial returns of an organization, on the contrary, it is by focusing on the employees’ psychological and social wellbeing. This will definitely create what we call “The Healthy Organization”.
